John McEnroe’s most famous tirade

John McEnroe is a versatile man who has proven himself in various fields. For example, the man decided after tennis to put together his own music band and go on tour with it for two years. He also managed to write a couple of autobiographies, start a tennis academy and an art gallery, play himself in films and become an inspiration for a host of theatrical and film characters. Ian McKellen created the Shakespearean Coriolanus in McEnroe’s image, and Tom Hulse the image of Mozart, for which he won an Oscar. The band End of a year dedicated the song “Mcenroe” to John.

John McEnroe has been involved in tennis for nearly 20 years. During this time, he managed to fight with opponents, journalists and referees. He even practised at BetNero gambling, but one moment became truly famous, which we will tell you about below.

At Wimbledon 1981. John came one year after losing 18-16 to Bjorn Borg. The American then took revenge on the Swede in the Us Open final 6-4. Many said that at the time, John McEnroe was in a terrible state of stress, as he thought he had to win again after beating Borg in New York. And if that didn’t happen that disaster would ensue.

John McEnroe played tennis against Tom Gullickson and won 7-6. However, he was already on the verge of a nervous breakdown at the very beginning of the game. As the man later stated, he could not settle down, especially when Gullickson started to get ahead on the score. Nevertheless, John McEnroe still managed to emerge victorious.

There is another suggestion that the episode ended in a 1-1 draw. Tom Gullickson then failed to hit a serve, but he was not credited with an out. A rally was held in which indignation grew in John McEnroe with each stroke. At the same time he asked James if it was noticed that the serve had not been hit. The latter replied that the serve was in the court John McEnroe became so enraged that he called everyone a scum of the earth. After this behaviour James made a note in his notebook and announced that he was taking one point away from John McEnroe.

Edward James did not have to come to Queens. It later turned out that at that serious moment he wrote in his notebook that John McEnroe was the piss of the world and took away one point from him for using foul language. John McEnroe was not aware of this at the time, so he called in Fred Hoyles, a farmer from Lincolnshire. In front of him, the man used an epithet from the work “Animal Farm” to describe his feelings about everything going on around him.

McEnroe was eventually fined for foul language and unsportsmanlike behaviour. He was also threatened that if he continued to behave this way he would be suspended from the tournament. Many newspapers in London have spoken negatively about John McEnroe’s behaviour, saying that he has embarrassed himself and called him a “super asshole”.

However, all the above events did not stop John McEnroe from defeating Borg. But the man was not allowed into the All England Club after all. As a rule, this was done to anyone who behaved in an uncivil manner. John McEnroe’s response was that he refused to come to the dinner of champions. He didn’t get membership until two years later. Then he won the tournament. This was his second win in a row. Today, John McEnroe’s famous remarks, including some offensive ones, are known around the world. Some of them have become winged expressions. They are sure to be known or ever heard by a true tennis fan, even one who has never followed John McEnroe’s activities. He has published several autobiographical books about himself and also starred in a National car commercial in 2006.
